Gordon Lax Earns TCCC Player of the Week Honors

As announced by The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC), Gordon College’s Jocie Knaus (Jr./Kensington, Connecticut) has been named the Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week while Dan Utz (Sr./Rochester, New York) and Ian Knechtle (Fr./New Canaan, Connecticut) have been named the Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Knaus grabs her first TCCC honor of the year after posting a seven-goal performance in the Fighting Scots’ 23-13 TCCC quarterfinal win over fourth-seeded Roger Williams University on Saturday, April 30. Throughout the season she’s made 38 goals and eight assists (46 points) as her team’s second leading scorer.Earning his second Player of the Week honor, Utz, who was also named TCCC Offensive Player of the Year and All-TCCC First Team, tallied a seven-point week on the attack for Gordon. Leading his Scots to a pivotal win over New England College in their final regular season game, Utz netted the game-winner with under a minute to play to lift Gordon to the 11-10 win and secure the third seed for the conference playoffs. Then in the TCCC quarterfinal game on Saturday, April 30, Utz was once again responsible for the game-winner as the Scots topped Salve Regina University, 10-7, to advance to the conference semifinals.
On the defensive end for the Scots, Knechtle was instrumental in each of Gordon’s key wins of the week, scooping three ground balls and causing one turnover in their playoff win over Salve Regina while grabbing two ground balls and forcing three turnovers in the earlier win over NEC.

With the upset over Roger
Williams, women’s lacrosse will travel to face top-seeded Western New England in the TCCC semifinal on Wednesday, May 4, at 4:00 p.m. The men travel for their TCCC semifinal on the same day to nearby rival Endicott College at 4:00 p.m. Winners will advance to the TCCC title game slated for Saturday, May 7.
